Service Program for Older People

Education and Training

SPOP conducts free Training and Education seminars at social service agencies, residential programs, and senior centers, providing basic skills and knowledge that can empower staff to respond to the mental health needs of older adults.

Seminars explore symptoms of mental illness, particular needs of the geriatric population, and how to make a referral.

Training is generally offered in two sessions and can be tailored to the specific needs of the senior site.

Topics include:

  • Anxiety in older adults and treatment
  • Depression in older adults and treatment
  • Schizophrenia and other psychotic disorders and treatment
  • Dementia and treatment
  • Substance abuse and treatment
  • Personality disorders and treatment
  • Healthy Aging
